FAQ

Why are we doing this?

Parents and students really appreciate the teachers and school staff for their hard work. In elementary schools, parents normally buy gift cards as a token of appreciation for the teachers. In middle school it is harder because each student has 5 or more teachers, plus more staff members, and parents have less chances to see teachers face to face.

To allow parents to appreciate the teachers more conveniently, each year PTSA collects the gift card donation money from all parents, then equally divide the total contribution to buy gift cards for all the school teachers and staff.

What if the total contribution is not divisible?

That is often the case. In the school year of 2024-2025, we had 2 gift card drives, each time we were able to buy a $60 gift card to each staff member. There are some small remainders, so we used them to host breakfast or lunch parties for all staff members. All the collected money is spent on staff appreciation.

What types of gift cards are bought?

It’s the choice of teacher/staff. We send out a Google form to all teachers and staff and they choose which gift card they prefer.

How much money should I contribute?

It’s totally up to you! Keep in mind that a student normally has 5 - 7 teachers teaching them each semester, and there are many awesome school staff members also put in a lot of effort to make the school a nice place to be. Your willingness to be a part of our mission is the most valuable gift. Please know that any donation is gratefully received!

<aside> ⚠️ Important Note: This gift contribution is not tax-deductible. Funds contributed for staff appreciation gift cards is not part of PTSA funds. The PTSA is solely facilitating the collection of money to purchase gift cards for staff appreciation on behalf of the contributors. These contributions are not eligible for tax-deductible status because they are not donations to PTSA, as all PTSAs are not allowed to use their own fund for staff compensation. Thank you for your understanding and support.
